The Sedgemoor Business Excellence Awards 2017 sees the arrival of two new award categories! The Best Agricultural Business of the year Award and the Engaging with Nuclear Award.
Both new categories were suggested by long time supporters of the awards.
Micron Bio-Systems approached us about including the Agricultural Award this year as it is something they believed to be important and that should be given recognition. Micron Bio-Systems have been supporters of the awards as sponsors and nominees for a long time and their continued support for this event and what it achieves is hugely appreciated.
Here’s a few words from Micron Bio-Systems about the Best Agricultural Business Award –
“2015 has been a very difficult and challenging year for dairy farmers and the agricultural industry as a whole. While there has been significant publicity regarding milk prices in the media, the underlying statistics are not so well now. The total number of dairy cows in the UK has decreased by 27% in 2015. Farm gate prices for milk have been the lowest since 2009, and in the last 20 years, doorstep milk has “declines from 46% to just 3% of the milk retail market. For this reason, Micron Bio-Systems would like to help the industry, as well as making more people aware of the problem by sponsoring a new award in the 2017 Sedgemoor Business Excellence Awards for “Best Agricultural Business”. We are very excited about being able to give a chance to these businesses to receive a true recognition for their work.”
The Engaging with Nuclear Award was suggested by Ian Liddell-Grainger and the award is sponsored by both Ian and the Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce. Again it was felt by both that this award would be open to a lot of business in Sedgemoor, both new to the area and to those who have been here for many years, and give them a chance to enter and gain recognition for the work they do.
Some words from Ian Liddell-Grainger and The Bridgwater Chamber on the Engaging with Nuclear Award –
“Ian Liddell-Grainger, the MP for Bridgwater and West Somerset, and the Bridgwater Chamber are pleased to Sponsor and support the “Engaging with Nuclear Award” at the 2017 Sedgemoor Business Excellence Awards next March.
Ian said “I am delighted to promote the award for the business in Sedgemoor most engaged with Nuclear Award. Hinkley C is a great opportunity for local businesses to gain directly and indirectly from Hinkley related contracts. I urge the town’s businesses to embrace this enormous opportunity on their doorstep and liaise with the Bridgwater Chamber to ensure that we have has much local business involvement with the Hinkley Project as possible”.
Steve Leahy, Chair of the Bridgwater Chamber, endorsed Ian’s views and is encouraged by all the support shown on many fronts and on many matters by the MP for Bridgwater and West Somerset. Steve is of the view that direct encouragement like his to get local businesses involved with the potential business opportunities offered by the construction of Hinkley C shows is a great initiative by Ian.”
